Asked to design and build some educational software to fulfil a need that he found in his school, Cameron decided to work with school's Social Studies teacher to produce a resource for his new Smartboard.
Smartboards are large, touch-enabled interactive whiteboards connected to a computer. This exciting new technology is helping to revolutionise classroom practice, but there is an urgent need for new resources to be developed that can be used on them.
The Social Studies teacher wanted an interactive multi-choice quiz resource to assist with the teaching of any topic.
Cameron used Flash with Actionscript programming to create his software that acts as a quiz. Cameron set it up the interactive learning side of the program as an empty template, so that the teacher can load the questions, and the correct and the false answers, and choose from a range of backgrounds and character objects.
Once the teacher has done this, the students answer the quiz question by dragging a pre-selected object, such as a helicopter, to the correct answer while all the time avoiding other objects, such as trees, and ensuring they don't drag the object to one of the many false answers. This makes Cameron's game particularly appealing to young students.
This project shows good technological practice, with Cameron working closely with his teacher/client throughout. The outcome is of particularly high quality, with excellent graphics, highly flexible in its application, and one that is particularly engaging for his target audience.
