Integrating the 'new' curriculum strands
Malcolm Howard – National Professional Development Facilitator
During the second half of 2010 Malcolm worked with a group of six teachers from four secondary schools in the Waikato / BOP region to assist them in their exploration of strategies to integrate the Nature of Technology and Technological Knowledge strands into their individual programmes.
In each case the activities were designed to address all indicators of progression for the selected component at the chosen level.
Details of each of the short units of work developed and delivered, together with teacher reflective comment, can be accessed through the table below:
On the table below you will find the projects arranged by Level and Strand.

Help build this resource
These activities reflect the experiences of a small group of teachers experimenting with the integration of the two new strands into their technology courses.
We would encourage other teachers to share their experiences as they have similarly worked on this integration. Tell us what has worked for you and your students and why it was successful and we can share this success with the wider technology community.
Simply complete this Activity submission form or email us at enquiries@techlink.org.nz and we will get back to you to discuss how this can be done.
To view a wide range of specific teaching strategies for each of the eight components at Levels 1-8 of the three technology curriculum strands go to Strategies for Engaging Students.
