Teacher Talk 4: Celebrating 20 years of Technology in primary schools

September 2012

This article illustrates how Technology in primary schools has changed and developed since the original draft of the Technology curriculum in 1993 - talking to a former primary teacher who was involved in the initial development and a current primary teacher. It celebrates the work currently taking place in Technology across New Zealand and encourages primary teachers to develop Technology units.

Technology education information sheet: About the subject of Technology

This is a double sided A4 information sheet which provides information on Technology education in secondary schools for parents and students. It promotes how Technology education at school developed, illustrates how it benefits students' in future tertiary study and employment and features comments from former Technology students.

Technology Promo Slideshow – Primary

Techlink's new slideshow promotes what is available to students studying Technology in primary schools and highlights the skills and experiences that are on offer. Primary school students are featured throughout each slideshow carrying out a range of Technology activities with short descriptions at the bottom on each slide.

This slideshow is a great way to show parents and teachers the skills and benefits that are gained from Technology at this level.

The slideshow can be accessed online in two versions: High-resolution and Low-resolution.

Technology Promo Slideshow – Secondary

This 56-image promotional slideshow was produced by Techlink in conjunction with Futureintech to illustrate the practice and achievements of Technology students and their potential career paths. It was created for use at expos, parent evenings, career evening to promote Technology as a learning area and to inform parents of intermediate and secondary school students of the benefits of Technology education.

A CD with a high-res PowerPoint version of this slideshow was sent to all schools in early 2010.

The slideshow can be accessed online in two versions: High-resolution and Low-resolution. Copies of the slideshow on CD are also available.
