Technology NZ wikiResource Review

technologynz.wikispaces.com

Description

This wiki, run in conjunction with the Team Solutions website, was established by National Facilitator NCEA Technology Lesley Pearce to support Technology and Graphics teachers. It provides links, resources and practical information on junior and senior programmes, NCEA and effective pedagogy and leadership in Technology. Teachers are encouraged to share examples of their own work on the wiki, and can contact Lesley, Paul Neveldson (National Facilitator Technology Years 7-10) or Gabrielle Ashton (Auckland and Northland Regional Secondary Facilitator) with queries.

Curriculum / Qualifications links

The website is specifically designed to provide support for teachers implementing the Technology curriculum and for Year 11-13 teachers preparing students for NCEA. The Technology section contains information on teaching the three strands in the curriculum, and there are additional sections on teaching Digital Technologies and Design and Visual Communication.

Content

The site contains information on the curriculum, assessment, NCEA alignment, workshop presentations such as Basic Procedures in Resistant Materials, and upcoming HOD/Cluster meetings. There is also material from Technology teachers who share resources such as lesson plans, teaching strategies and examples of student work. Teachers can also use the Discussion Forum to share ideas and ask questions.

Ease of use

The site is easy to navigate and users can easily find the sections they are particularly interested in, whether it's Scholarship Resources, Professional Reading or Literacy.

Rating

Long Bay College Food Technology teacher Belinda Devlin finds the site easy to access and says it contains just what teachers need to know, for example, the Components, workshops and meetings, and NZQA alignment. "There are lots of things that I've adapted for my classroom, such as templates, and the site is also good for just getting ideas."
