Technological Knowledge

The knowledge that is key to all technological endeavours – that is, conceptual understandings related to technological modelling, products, and systems.

Technological Knowledge is one of the three main strands of Technology in The New Zealand Curriculum 2007, and has the components of Technological Modelling, Technological Products and Technological Systems.

Within this strand, students develop an understanding of how and why things work. They understand that functional modelling is used to test and evaluate design ideas, concepts, and prototypes to determine their fitness for purpose in situ. They also develop understanding of material properties and how material properties influence their use in products and systems and learn how constituent parts of systems work together to form technological systems.
