Component (of Technology)
The New Zealand Curriculum specifies three strands for the learning area of Technology: Technological Practice, Technological Knowledge, and Nature of Technology.
These three Technology curriculum strands, together with the six specialist knowledge and skill strands, support students to develop technological literacy across curriculum levels 6, 7 and 8.
Each of these strands has been broken down into smaller inter-related groupings called components. For example, the three components of Technological Practice are: Brief Development; Planning for Practice; Outcome Development and Evaluation.
The Techlink Curriculum Support pages Nature of Technology, Technological Knowledge and Technological Practice give excellent guidance notes on all the components of the three Technology curriculum strands. They include indicators of student progression, which can be used as a guide for assessment and basis for reporting.
