Rachel Lawson

Glass panels

Year 13 Materials Technology

In 2009 Rachel Lawson was awarded a New Zealand Scholarship in Technology for her work in developing a one-off solution (three screen printed glass panels) for a client. This technology unit focussed on the development of a glass panel sculpture for a specific location within her client's house. Rachel decided to embark on this project when she was approached by her client with the issue of there being a wall in her client's house that required decoration. She undertook research, trialled materials and techniques, and consulted a variety of practising technologists to inform her Technological Practice and the Technological Outcome that was eventually developed.

In her reflective report and supporting evidence, Rachel demonstrated synthesis and integration of technological experiences in bringing together knowledge, skills, ideas and methods to allow a successful Technological Outcome to be developed. There is evidence of elegance in Rachel's Technological Practice and the final outcome that she produced.

Rachel comprehensively justified how her Technological Practice was undertaken, and how the outcome addressed the specifications identified as being required in a Technological Outcome that was fit for purpose.

She critically reflected on the information, understandings and practices of practising technologists from a range of contexts and demonstrated how this was used to inform her own practice when developing her Technological Outcome and testing its fitness for purpose.
