The Schools team at IPENZ has actively supported teachers and students for well over a decade through Techlink, Futureintech and the Transpower Neighbourhood Engineers Awards. It’s an important part of IPENZ work and while we’re very proud of our achievements we’re focussed on what we can offer in the next decade.
As Futureintech prepares to celebrate its tenth birthday in October, we’ve had news that our funding agreement with Callaghan Innovation has been extended until at least 31 December 2014. Futureintech will continue to offer service as usual in the main centres and to support teachers and careers advisers in other parts of the country from our Hub in Wellington.
Support from Technology Education New Zealand allowed us to make significant changes to the Techlink website this year and we now have an increasing amount of material available for Technology teachers. If you‘d like to submit material for publication please contact techlink@techlink.org.nz
To celebrate IPENZ centenary in 2014 the Transpower Neighbourhood Engineers Awards team has set itself the goal of engaging 50 engineers in 50 projects in schools throughout New Zealand. For these awards we’ll ask students to do a little bit of research into the history of their project and how things have changed over 100 years. Centenary awards will be recognised with increased prize money and a specially branded certificate.
The Techlink Pathways Project is focused on increasing the number and diversity of students enrolling in and completing diplomas and degrees in engineering and technology at institutes of technology and polytechnics (ITPs). Work has begun on developing student entry profiles for the NZDE and BEngTech qualifications which will be reviewed by teachers and ITP staff with the view of informing programme development and the publication of qualifications-related promotional material. Glynn McGregor, Project Coordinator, will be sharing the results of his work so far at the upcoming TESAC Conference in Wellington.
IPENZ will be represented at the TESAC Conference and the team looks forward to updating you on our work and our plans for 2014.
