Parents' information section
Techlink are developing new resources for the parents' information section.
A new 'What students learn in Technology Education' piece will be added to Techlink. This piece explains to parents what their child will learn at each level in the curriculum and illustrates those levels with examples from Beacon Practice case studies.
Another new section, based on the generic skills employers look for in potential employees and how those skills are gained in technology education, is currently in production also.
Both of these additions are to be published during March and promoted via the usual channels.
Do you have an idea or topic that could be useful for the parents section? Email Nick at nmaitland@techlink.org.nz and let him know what would be useful. All ideas will be considered.

Key Contacts
During the month Angela and Nick met with Elizabeth Goodwin, the Ministry of Education Communication Group Manager   External Relations. At the meeting mutually beneficial opportunities were discussed and Nick has sent a summary of technology education stories of potential interest to Elizabeth.
As a result, one of the stories has caught the eye of Education Gazette reporter, Wayne Erb. The story of interest involved a street luge project run by St John's College and Morrinsville College. The project was so successful in 2007 that the schools have decided to run it again in 2008. Following up Wayne's interest, Nick sent a CD of 15-20 photos of the luge race day.
The street luge project will also be the focus of an upcoming Beacon Practice case study. Stay tuned...
Paul Snape, the TENZ Canterbury branch chair in Christchurch has asked Nick (Techlink Comms Officer) to take part in a TENZ session. Nick will show the attendees the resources Techlink has available. The session is scheduled for Thursday 27 March.
