April update, 2007

University Contact

Endorsement of technology education by tertiary institutions will aid student retention, benefiting senior secondary school technology programmes and tertiary providers alike. Towards the end of March and throughout April, Techlink contacted key people in universities around the country to recommend they endorse skills learnt in the technology classroom. Techlink proposed that promotional material sent to students by tertiary institutions should state that the technology skills they gain at school will be recognised.

Each university contact has been sent links to Techlink's resources - principally the Beacon Practice case studies and the Student Showcase material - to insure they are up-to-speed with best classroom practice. Further discussions and meetings have been arranged throughout the year.

ICT case study promotions

Beacon Practice case studies of ICT programmes at Katikati College and Hillcrest High School were recently been added to Techlink. Education publications such as Education Gazette, Education Today, Principals Today, Computers in NZ Schools, and PPTA News were sent press releases containing short case study summaries and links to the webpages.

Also informed of the publication of the ICT case studies were The Bay of Plenty Times, Waikato Times, The Royal Society of New Zealand, The Computer Society, The Ministry of Education, Business NZ, and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.

Email Alert

An email alert promoting the new ICT case studies and the new additions to the Student Showcase went out on Friday the 29th. Join this mailing list.
