These assessment guides were developed and critiqued by experienced teachers and teacher educators as part of the Technology Resource Development Project - 2011.
Please note that they are not official NZQA quality assured assessment resources.
The guides are made available in both pdf and word format. The pdf format can be used as is along with an assessment task. The assessment guides are also available in word format for teachers to customise for their own situation. Care should be taken if these guides are customised to ensure that any changes still comply with the intent of the achievement standard(s). Examples of possible changes include: contextualising the guides for a particular project and/or adding examples of possible student responses.
Teachers should note the comment at the bottom of the guide relating to holistic assessment:
"Final grades will be decided using professional judgement based on a holistic examination of the evidence provided against the criteria in the Achievement Standard".
It is not the intent of these guides that assessment becomes compartmentalised, rather the guides provide a means for recording evidence which informs an overall teacher holistic assessment judgement.
The column headed up "Key evidence seen or heard" is to be used where additional evidence is seen and/or heard that is not included in submitted portfolio material. For example if a student verbally provided a crucial piece of evidence then this should be noted in this column.
As part of good assessment practice teachers should provide ongoing feedback to students. The guides provide an opportunity to support this feedback. In addition the guides are useful for providing notes to the moderators that clarify how specific assessment decisions have been made.
